Pokémon Down Under, pt 2.
Another single-evolving pair, this time a grass type. My favorites so far.
This may be news to anyone who hasn’t been yet (it was to me), but the silver tree fern or ponga is the unofficial but very pervasive symbol of New Zealand. Ferns are everywhere here - not just the actual plants, but every other piece of iconography or logo you see is fern-based.
Pokémon Down Under, pt 1
Having recently gained access to Photoshop allows me to act on an idea I had when I was out traveling in February. As an ecology major, coming into a completely foreign ecosystem felt a lot like exploring a new area in Pokémon, which inspired me to design some New Zealand-themed pocket monsters. It’s a lot of fun.
Let’s start out with a couple simple bug-types, shall we? (Weta are basically large, flightless crickets; they’re pretty adorable.)
